Kwoyo Kaura basisschool waterput, gelegen in de Siany gemeenschap

KWOYO KAURA PRIMARY SCHOOL AND SIANY COMMUNITY SHALLOW WELL PROJECT 2018

WEST KOCHIA LOCATION—HOMA BAY

0.02: PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Kwoyo Kaura Primary School Shallow well water within Siany Community:

Siany Community is a clan within Kochia West Location, Kochia Division, Rangwe Sub-county in Homa Bay County and has approximate population of 1090 people. The area is flat with black cotton soil, and many times waterlogged. The area has no any river and is highly water deficit. The closes water source is the Lake Victoria which is about three kilometers away and is ever contaminated. The area appears to be very vulnerable to related water bone diseases. This is due to its Topography: flat, waterlogged with poor drainage system.

However, the community still uses the water source. Those who are economically able have roof catchment, but the majority poor(90%) has only the lake. Within the community is the Kwoyo Kaura Primary School with about 521 (classes 1-8) and 112(Early Childhood Education/Nursery) pupils. The proposed shallow well will therefore support the general community and the school community.

0.03: SPECIFICE ACHIEVABLE OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT:

(1) To develop safe clean shallow well Water for use by the community of Siany and the Primary school.

On successful implementation of the shallow well water project, the following outcomes are expected:

  • Improved school academic performance, more so for girls who are ever sent to fetch for water.
  • General improved community health, hygiene and wellbeing as they would be using clean safe water from the developed water well.
